Want to know how to post to Instagram from PC?

Congratulations! You've come to the right place.

Most social media sites like Twitter and Facebook give you the same experience on your web browser as you'd get if you downloaded the mobile app. Unfortunately for ‘Grammers, multi-channel functionality isn't one of the big updates that Instagram has added to their service for 2019.

Ultimately, Instagram was designed to be a mobile app for people who want to connect with their followers through visual content (i.e., videos, pictures, and slideshows). This means that you're supposed to upload your raw, un-edited images straight from your smartphone.

So, what happens when that strategy just doesn't work for you?

Why Post to Instagram from PC?

Gramblr sign in

There are plenty of reasons why people prefer to post their Instagram content from their PC, laptop or Mac computers. In 2019, you'll be battling against more than a billion users for your share of #Instafame. That means you can't afford to post images (or videos) that don't stand out.

Uploading your content to your computer or Mac before you place it on Instagram gives you a chance to edit your images in Lightroom or Photoshop first. It also means that you can use a more professional camera to take your shots – rather than relying on your smartphone.

One of the most obvious ways to bypass the smartphone-only rule on Instagram is to upload your photo to your PC, send it to yourself via email, and then upload it from your phone. Of course, that's all pretty cumbersome, and it's a serious #Yawnfest going through all those steps.

If You Have a Mac

If you love to ‘Gram from your Mac, then you'll probably be using Safari as your default browser.

On your Safari screen, go through to the Preferences tab and click on 'Advanced.' You'll need to click on the tab that reads: 'Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar.' After that, open a private window on Safari and go into the new Develop menu. From there, you can click on the tab that says User Agent and pick a Safari mobile browsing option that suits you – we recommend the iOS iPhone.

This makes Instagram think that you're logging in from an iPhone when you're actually fueling your ‘Gram addiction on your Mac browser. Pretty sneaky, huh?

If You have a PC

If you have a PC, then you're probably not going to be using Safari. Fortunately, you can still post to Instagram from PC using Google Chrome!

The process is very similar to the one that we went through above. Start by downloading Chrome onto your browser, and logging into your account. From there, you can open Chrome Developer Tools by pressing the CTRL, Shift and J buttons at the same time.

Once your Developer screen appears, press CTRL+Shift+M to switch to mobile view. You can choose pretty much any mobile device you like to replicate in your Chrome browser, but once again, the iPhone option is one of the simplest.

As you can see from the screenshot above, switching to mobile view also gives you a way to post your Instagram photos, just as you would on the mobile app. Clicking on the add image icon will open your PC file manager, so you can choose the picture you want to upload.

If the buttons you need don't appear automatically, reload your page to give it another chance to work.

What if You Don't Use Chrome?

If you don't use Chrome and you want to post to Instagram from PC, you can try Firefox instead. The same process as you would use on Chrome works for Firefox versions 52 or higher. Simply go into Tools > Web Developer > Responsive Design Mode.

In Responsive Design Mode, you can change the device that your browser things you're using. It's as simple as that!
